We found this chestn

from Antonio Velardo ift.tt/1zaxNGy We found this chestn We found this chestnut lamprey attached to a common carp in the Chariton River while sampling. Despite their alien appearance, this native fish is actually protected and is a threatened species in Iowa. They are very primitive fish and lack a lower jaw. Parasites, they attach to sides of host fish and consume body fluids from the host. Chestnut lamprey attacks are rarely lethal to the host fish. http://ift.tt/1raKVHo November 22, 2014 at 06:21PM
